A 19th century Chinese Paidao
A nice antique Chinese Paidao sword with carved wooden handle and bronze guard. These side-arms were used by the Qing military while holding a rattan shield. The Paidao is the single version of the Hudiedao and dates from around 1860. The blade is rather thick, heavy and long instead of more common flat broad bladed examples. The bronze knucklebow seems to have a mixture of alloys to harden it and make it capable to ward off strikes. The handle has a diamond shaped carving for a better grip. The blade is in excellent condition and shows slight traces of ware, but is of good quality forged steel.
Condition: Excellent, some minor ware due to it’s age, the blade is hard and has an overall smooth surface. This example comes without a scabbard.
Total length: 58.7cm
