Description

A nice and good antique Afghan Pulwar dating from the 19th century. A fine made openwork pommel and typical downward pointed crossguard. The blade is Indo Persian and marked with a trishula stamp. These sword appeared around in Afghanistan at the beginning of the 19th century. The typical quillons had their origin in Afghanistan and maintained there mostly. The types of pulwars vary with pierced openwork pommels and later in the second half of the 19th century with disc-shaped pommels. The handles were fitted to the blades with a very strong resin. The inside of the openwork is filled with small bits of resin so it makes a rattling sound when you wield the sword.
