A Fine Antique Sumatran Pedang
A very nice example of an early 19th century Pedang. Carved horn Makara handle with bone inlayed eyes, Brass scabbard decoration and a well made laminated blade. The handle is carved with a lot of attention for details such as the mouth and hair. The brass scabbard is engraved with rocaille patterns wich were very popular in the Netherlands during the late 18th century and was maintained in Indonesia during the 19th century. This sword was made and after the VOC (Verenigde Oost-Indische Compangie) period. Several swords from Dutch East Indonesia were found with same hilts and scabbards, but with Dutch VOC marked and dated blades. The blade of this example is a traditional multi-curved laminated blade.
Condition: Good,The pendak is made of silver and has some ware due to use. the end of the scabbard is slightly deformed, but absolutely not disturbing.
