A very scarce Sikin Peurawot from Aceh
A very rare pinang type knife only seen in the Aceh region of Sumatra. Mostly with good quality blades and between 30 to 50 cm long. The handles are different, but mostly made of ivory or horn. A similarity on al of these knifes is a typical ferrule also called ”Suasa Sampa” decorating the hilt. The blades are mostly all the same, slightly curved, don’t have a central ridge and the back of the blade is somewhat concave. The cutting edge of the blade is a little concave in shape. Some handles have a different pommel or ”Tampo”. The scabbards on these knives show similarities to other Aceh weapons such as the Siking Panjang and the Rencong. Sometimes plain, and sometimes carved with floral designs.
This example has an hippo ivory handle and copper Suasa Sampa. The blade is very thick and quite heavy for it’s size. The scabbard mouth has a decoration of typical Sumatran curly motifs and is engraved with floral designs. The scabbard is put together originally with resin and has a silver band to hold it together.
Condition: Excellent, perfectly smooth handle and blade. The wooden scabbard is in very good condition.
Blade length: 23.8cm
Blade thickness: 0.4cm
Total length: 35cm
